Photo Story: Togo | Peter Gostelow - Adventure Cycling ...

Belated New Year greetings. I was on a beach in Ghana during my last photo story. Moving eastwards and inland I later crossed the border into French-speaking Togo, spending a brief 3 days here. The landscape was green and the people colourfully dressed. This woman is carrying long grass, which would later have been weaved to make large baskets commonly used to transport goods to the market place. Such colourfully dressed clothing is a distinctive feature of west Africa. Up until independence in 1960, Togo was a French colony, but for a brief time before World War I ?it was a German protectorate known as Togoland. I wrote about Togo in??this blog post.
