Lois Jordan (33) | Friday January 25, 2013, 5:30 pm Noted. I found it interesting that it's considered a conspiracy that G.W. Bush stole the 2004 election....that has been proven. The OH servers were rigged...just as they tried to do it again this year, but were thwarted by Anonymous. Your report has been submitted to Customer Service. Thank you. Kit B. (308) | Friday January 25, 2013, 5:44 pm I don't accept conspiracy theories, just what kind of conspiracy slips out all over the Internet? I do think, from personal observation, that republicans take an inordinate amount of pride in winning an election. That some one has attempted to "rig" elections is as old as this country, that it is successful is another question. Bush didn't have to "rig" 2000, a Supreme Court Justice step out of his given role, and interfered with a recount. That made the election ripe for controversy, followed quickly by conspiracy.

Carrie B. (217) | Friday January 25, 2013, 6:39 pm I think of one word when reading comments made by many republicans on care2 ~ rigid! That makes them very susceptible to conspiracy theories that support and validate their feelings. Your report has been submitted to Customer Service. Thank you. Mitchell D. (15) | Friday January 25, 2013, 6:51 pm Fascinating! this explains why there were some people, even as the Nixon presidency was in vvirtual self-destruct mode, late in that jackasses tenure, who believed he was doing a fine job! Angelika Roll (83) | Friday January 25, 2013, 7:02 pm Interesting -but little surprise there, thx Carrie. But I wonder how exactly the researchers can tell true facts from conspiracy theories. As for the last sentence there, even without that research result we KNOW Obama will have a tough 2nd term simply by experience from the past 4 yrs and repubs words and actions. No pondering. John B. (130) | Friday January 25, 2013, 9:14 pm Thanks Carrie for the link to the article Chris Mooney and the links provided in the article. Excellent piece. I thought is represented the very real mentality differences between the GOP and Democratic party members quite well. Read and noted. Your report has been submitted to Customer Service. Thank you. J.L. A. (84) | Friday January 25, 2013, 9:53 pm Two things of special value in remembering here, based on the actual data: "...as I wrote about in my book The Republican Brain?conservatives are known to have a higher need for cognitive closure?the desire to have a fixed belief, an unwavering sense of certainty, about politics and all aspects of life." That seems to align with an expectation of seeing a rigidity resistant to learning data or facts or ideas affecting the beliefs. "...the idea that everybody is equally biased, but in different directions, continues to have a key weakness?namely, the data." Your report has been submitted to Customer Service. Thank you. Michael Carney (173) | Saturday January 26, 2013, 2:49 am I just don't even know what the answer is, to try to rationalize with Republicans any more...I have a few family ,members, and friends who are Republicans, and you just can't even talk to them anymore, they come up with some of the wildest shit, I ever heard...You just can't have a normal sane conversation with them anymore...That's not good, when you can't communicate with someone you disagree with... BG Callahan (0) | Saturday January 26, 2013, 1:02 pm Is the idea of a co-operative civilization, a democratic republic, unsustainable in the long run due to these polarities? Are reactionary strongmen, political and religious, destined to rule all? We who have flexible minds capable of tolerating ambiguity, relative values and ethics, creative solution-finding are hated by many of the Republicans and religionists. We have our work cut out for us, to keep people free. Your report has been submitted to Customer Service. Thank you. There was a problem submitting your report. Please try again later. ? |
pam w. (180) | Saturday January 26, 2013, 3:57 pm Nature always tries to fill a VACUUM. Those who can't be part of the "real" US try to fill their empty heads with conspiracies! And there you are. Probably not a coincidence that the fundamentalists (who just LOVE myths) are so often part of the conspiracist groups. Your report has been submitted to Customer Service. Thank you. Cyan Dickirs (3) | Saturday January 26, 2013, 5:53 pm There are no standards of neutrality and balance in the mainstream political press. "Carrie" is biased and ignorant. Carter is the only Dem pres who never got very good press. Every other one, from Kennedy to Clinton to BO esp got coddled, praised, protected, polished, primped and excused, their corruptions, mistakes, faux pas, peccadillos, sexual indiscretions, immoralities, outright lies were either ignored, weakly excused while their critics were mercilessly excoriated as ignorant, religious idiots, racist bigots, esp during the BO years. J.L. A. (84) | Saturday January 26, 2013, 6:46 pm The paper reporting the survey results is at: http://publicmind.fdu.edu/2013/outthere/final.pdf I couldn't find anything changing what the reported results were in the MJ article, so any bias 'Chris" might or might not have would not affect the numbers and data reported, which is the majority of the information it contained.
